On August 24th during the "Road to the Runway" event, consultants and sales representatives were able to be involved first hand in kikaCares. Brenda Wilson, Founder, Operator and CEO of the New Image Shelter, and her twin sister Lynda Moran, Assistant Director of New Image (pictured above), spoke with us about the challenges and triumphs they are currently facing. Gift bags were made for homeless and low income women who are trying to get back on their feet. The bag included a new wardrobe (over $500 worth of Kika clothing), toiletries, and a personalized note of encouragement!

The MISSION of New Image is to: (1) decrease and (2) prevent homelessness throughout Los Angeles County by providing comprehensive Case Management and Supportive Services, housing, job search and placement, outreach, and referral services.

We were excited and honored to take part in what New Image is doing in Southern California.

We're not feminists, but we know many of our sisters around the globe don't have the freedom or opportunities that we have to follow our dreams and bring change to the world. Issues such as poverty, HIV/AIDS, sex trafficking, labor trafficking, and abuse keep women around the world enslaved from becoming who they are meant to be. We recognize that these issues aren't just happening in far away places, but often times in our own cities and neighborhoods here in America. Kika doesn't want to be just another clothing company focused on making money at the expense of others. Kika's founder, Kim Shaw, knew from the beginning that she wanted a business that focused on economic opportunities for women, and a social consciousness for everyone who would be involved in making that possible.
